Interview mit Rick McCallum

"Star Wars"-Produzent Rick McCallum über das "Star Wars"-Imperium

What's the fascinating thing about Star Wars?

It works. It's one of the strange things. It's always about some young boy or girl who has to leave home and they have the hole live of adventure in front of them. They don't know whether they'll be good, they don't know whether they'll be bad and they don't know if they'll be succesful. That's a kind of driving force. That's a passage we all go through, that's very easy to identify with the Star Wars characters.

How does it feel to have so many Fans?

Well, when you made as many unsuccesful films as I have, it feels very good. It doesn't happen very often in your career but when it does it's very special.

Do you have one favourite Star Wars film?

"Episode 5 - Empire strikes back" is still my favourite. It's very emotional. But I think the last hour of this is absolutely stunning and it works beautifully in many ways more powerful then Empire strikes back.

Do you have a favourite character?

Jabba the Hutt. Because I look like him and because this is who I wanna be.

Let's move to the TV. You produced “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.” Will you be producing the “Star Wars” television series as well?

Really, I don’t know what I’ll be doing after this. I’m not sure if I’ll be involved in the series. We’ll be regrouping in September and will figure out then what we’re doing.

How would you describe you relationship with George Lucas?

Weird. It has been fantastic.

Did you become friends?

Yes, absolutely.

Thanks for the interview!
